Abheet Sarker

In 2018, Abheet Sarker, a senior in Williamsport Area High School, traveled to Bangladesh, his home country. There, he went to a refugee camp to help his father set up a medical camp for the Rohingya refugees. Beside the medical camp was an orphanage. Abheet was walking around the area when he stumbled upon a little girl. This little girl was holding her baby brother in her arms.

Abheet couldn’t just ignore the knowledge that there were so many more poor Rohingya refugee children who were just like this one: losing their parents and having to bear the responsibility of taking care of their siblings. When he came back to the US, Abheet began to raise funds for the Rohingya. Eventually, he made a mini-documentary series on the events that led up to the crisis, what is going on in the crisis now, and how people can help to assuage the crisis.
